Refund policy

Returns & Refunds

Every piece of jewellery at The Merchant's Wife is vintage or antique. Each piece has been worn, handled and lived in before we chose it for our customers.

Please review all photographs, measurements, condition information, and other details in the listing carefully before purchasing. Our descriptions are based on our own examination and research, as well as information provided by estates, auction houses, previous owners, dealers and other sources. Where information about a piece's history, age, materials, or provenance is uncertain, we will say so.

If you have any questions about a piece, please contact us before purchasing. We are happy to provide additional photographs, measurements, or information where available.

Final Sale

Because our pieces are individually sourced and generally one of one, all sales are final, except where a return or refund is required by applicable law or where a piece arrives damaged in transit or is materially different from its listing.

Where a refund is issued in circumstances permitted by this policy, the refund may be reduced by any non-refundable shipping charges or payment-processing fees that we have actually incurred, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Damaged in Transit

Please inspect your package and the piece carefully upon delivery.

If your piece appears to have been damaged during transit, please photograph the unopened package, all packaging materials, and the piece itself before attempting to repair, clean, wear, or alter it. Contact us at info@themerchantswife.com as soon as reasonably possible and, where possible, within 48 hours of delivery.

Photographs of the packaging and item help us document the condition in which the package arrived and make a claim with the carrier or insurer where appropriate.

Not as Described

We take care to photograph and describe each piece accurately. If you believe that a piece is materially different from its listing, please contact us promptly and, where possible, within 72 hours of delivery.

Please provide photographs and a description of the discrepancy so that we can investigate and determine an appropriate resolution.

A minor variation in colour caused by photography, lighting, or individual screen settings, or a characteristic that was disclosed in the listing, does not by itself constitute a material discrepancy.

What does not qualify

Subject to any rights provided by applicable law, we do not accept returns for:

  • change of mind or buyer's remorse;
  • a piece not looking exactly as it appeared on an individual screen;
  • a difference in colour caused by lighting, photography, or screen settings;
  • ordinary signs of age or wear that were disclosed in the listing;
  • characteristics, imperfections, repairs, alterations, or other condition issues that were disclosed in the listing;
  • normal variations in antique or vintage materials and construction; or
  • damage or alteration occurring after delivery through wear, improper handling, cleaning, resizing, repair, or other treatment.
