FAQ
Are your pieces antique or vintage?
Both. Our collection brings together antique and vintage jewellery chosen for its character, craftsmanship and story. Each listing includes details about the piece, including its estimated age where we can determine it.
Are your pieces solid gold?
Yes, all of our pieces are solid gold (rather than vermeil or gold-plated) in the carat content listed.
We occasionally source antique silver and gold filled pieces; these are clearly identified in their descriptions.
How do you test the gold?
We examine each piece for hallmarks and, where appropriate, use electronic gold testing and traditional acid testing to assess its metal content.
When a hallmark is present and our testing is consistent with it, we note the hallmark and indicated purity in the description. When a hallmark is worn, incomplete, absent, or cannot be relied upon, we describe the metal as “tests as” the indicated purity.
Where do you get the information in your product descriptions?
We source pieces through a variety of channels and draw on our own research, historical records, and information provided by previous owners, dealers and auction houses.
We share what we learn as accurately as we can, while recognising that the history of antique and vintage jewellery is not always fully documented. Where information is based on our research or interpretation rather than documentary evidence, we aim to make that clear.
Is each piece one of a kind?
Each piece is one of one in our shop.
That doesn't necessarily mean it is the only example of its kind ever made. It means that we've handpicked that particular piece and have only one available.
When a piece sells, we may leave its listing visible as "Sold", so you can still explore its story.
Where do you ship?
At the moment, we only ship within Canada.
What condition should I expect?
Each piece is pre-loved and has lived a life, sometimes many, before joining yours.
We love the character that age can bring, but antique and vintage jewellery is unlikely to be perfect. Condition varies from piece to piece, and we aim to describe any notable signs of wear, damage, repairs, alterations, or other condition issues in the listing.
Please read the description and look closely at all photographs so you know what to expect from the piece you're considering.
Can you tell me more about a piece before I buy it?
Of course!
If you'd like another detail, a closer look, or simply want to talk through a piece before buying, send us a message.
We're here to help you!
How should I care for antique and vintage jewellery?
It really depends on the condition of the piece and how “hard” you wear your jewellery. In a perfect world, you'd handle each piece gently, store it separately and keep it away from harsh chemicals and unnecessary moisture.
Take particular care with older pieces and jewellery containing stones. Depending on the age and condition of the piece, prongs may require re-tipping from a jeweller experienced in working with antiques.
If you don't have access to a specialized jeweller, and you decide that reinforcement is absolutely necessary, you can take it to a local jeweller that uses a laser welder (this precise method will help preserve stones, patina and original craftsmanship).
What is your return policy?
Because our antique and vintage pieces are one of one and we are a small business, all sales are final.
If your piece arrives damaged in transit or is materially different from its description, please contact us within the timeframes set out in our Return and Refund Policy.
The full policy explains what information and photographs we may need and what happens next.
